Cameroon : Limbe Deep Seaport Delay Devastating Many Youths

The Appointment Of Limbe Autonomous Port Still Awaited.  

The presidential decree last year creating the Limbe Autonomous Port (PAL) was received with enormous gladness of hearts by the South Westerners. The spirit of jubilation emanating from the decision after a year is now getting sour and frustrating.

Surprisingly enough, after 13 months of the decree, no further steps have been taken apart from the approval of articles of association in another decree on the same 5 May 2020. Pundits are questioning if it is not another presidential promise. At this moment, eyes are wide shot and expectations at its apex to see the appointment of Pal officials, having as General Manager a person from South West Region. The Limbe Port before the decree has been existing as a subsidiary to the Douala Autonomous Port.

The creation of the Limbe Autonomous Port  will lead to the beginning t of the construction of the Limbe Port in order for it to function fully as a Port of its own. The Prime Minister (PM) and Head of Government, Chief Dion Ngute during the campaign launch of the last twin election on February 9, 2020, stated that “Plans for the long- awaited construction of the Limbe Deep Seaport were already in Progress.” In October 2019, during the installation of the pioneer Branch Manager of the Limbe Ports, late Josue Youmba, the former Director of National Ports Authority raised the hope of the people before the PM’s statement. The construction of the Limbe Deep Seaport will soon become a reality. He pointed out.The presidential decree raised the hopes of the youths who see the creation of the Limbe Deep Seaport as an opportunity for them to gain useful employment.
