Cameroon : Members Of Parliament Receive Four Bills

Law Makers To Scrutinize Them In The Days Ahead.

Four bills have been tabled at the National Assembly during a plenary sitting on the 10th June 2021 at the Yaounde Congress Center. Chaired by the Right Honorable Speaker Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, bills ranging from number 1093/PJ/AN to number 1096/PJ/AN were tabled in the presence of the law makers.In pursuance of the provision of section fifty five of the finance law for the 2021 finance year, bill number 1093/PJ/AN, gives the President of the Republic rights to ratify ordinance No. 2021/2 of 26 May 2021 to amend and supplement some provisions of  Law No. 2020/18 of 17 December 2020.

In this regards, the President of the Republic on May 26th, 2021 signed Ordinance No. 2021/2 amending the provision of forty-nine and inserting section forty-nine (a) in Law No. 2020/18 of December 2020. Followed suit was Bill No. 1094/PJ/AN authorizing the President of the Republic to ratify the Stepping Stone Agreement towards a Bilateral Economic Partnership Agreement between the Republic of Cameroon and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.Bill Number 1095/PJ/AN is to authorize the President of the Republic to ratify the Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Cameroon and the Swiss Federal Council, on the reciprocal abolition of the visa requirement for holders of Diplomatic or Service Passports.

The bill has as goal the strengthening of friendship and solidarity ties between the two countries.The fourth Bill which is Bill No 1096/PJ/AN, permits the Government to have access to genetic resources, their derivatives, traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the utilization.

 This bill is of importance because it lays down the overall legal framework dedicated to protecting and developing national genetic resources, and thus making them a major lever for development and the fair and equitable sharing of the gains.
