Citizens Seeking For Safety In Both Countries.
The insecurity threats along the over 2,000km border line and the inability of the citizens of both countries to sleep with certainty have pushed authorities to brainstorm on ways to put an end to all worries. Cameroon and Nigeria authorities are meeting in Abuja in Nigeria for the 8th session of the Cameroon-Nigeria Trans border security committee.
The 8th session of Cameroon-Nigeria Trans border security Committee that commence in Abuja, Nigeria on the 24th August 2021, is looking for means to bring together strategies to stop the increasing threats to life and properties. Paul Atanga Nji, the Minister of Territorial Administration explained that the Head of State Paul Biya and Muhammadou Buhari of Nigeria have laid importance to peace and security that the people are canvassing for. The two Head of States are putting hands on deck to realize their dreams. The state should be considered first and workable solutions should be proposed to the Head of States. He added.
General Babagana Monguno, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser and also head of the Nigeria committee delegation pointed out that only concerted efforts can surmount the common peace and security challenges faced by Cameroon and Nigeria. The two countries share over 2,000km boundary lines in five different regions namely, the Far North, North, Adamawa, North West and South West.
The similarities in cultures and excellent leadership are uniting forces pushing the authorities to fasten the bilateral cooperation and conquer the challenges. Putting an end to peace and security threats like terrorism, armed banditry, maritime piracy, trafficking, agro pastoral conflicts, hunting in parks along the borders can only be done through a synergy.
Worth Noting is the fact that, Cameroon is hosting thousands of Nigerians running away from Boko Haram threats and Nigeria as well is keeping Cameroonians fleeing threats from separatists fighters in the North West and South West Regions.
