Society: Government Losing Fight Against Non Bio Degradable Plastic Bags

After Seven Years The State Unable To Stop Circulation.

The Government of Cameroon through the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development on the 24th March 2014 banned the circulation and use of plastic bags in the country.

Since 2014 that the Minister Hele Pierre announced the destruction of plastic bags in the country on the pretext that they are non – degradable no concrete action to implement the ban has taken place as the non degradable plastics are seen circulating in the markets even in the month of October 2021.

Today, the Cameroon government which banned the manufacturing, the importation, possession and marketing or free distribution of the low density non-biodegradable plastic bags as well as chemical uses throughout the national territory is cut in the web of frustration, defeat and non application of its decisions.

With the presence of the non bio degradable plastic bags in the markets , there are indications that, the government that initiated the fight against the non biodegradable plastic bags is backing out and leaving the population of Cameroon to their fate. Many pundits are wondering why the government started a fight that after seven years can’t be proud of obtaining any victory.

The million dollar question asked is, what was the motive behind the ban?, who came up with the idea and what was he supposed to benefit? All these remain questions to be answered.

If after seven years that the government banned the non-biodegradable plastics bags in Cameroon, they are still seen in the market, no one needs a magician to know that the state is giving up the fight. It is high time the government understands that before taking a decision that concerns the population, serious inquiries must be made, the citizens’ opinion asked before any further action is taken.
