Elizabeth and Mary welcomed by HGOPY officials at the airport.
Elizabeth and Mary the conjoined twin sisters who were separated successfully from their hip after a 27 hour operation by Turkey surgeons had a hilarious welcome recently in Yaounde when they arrived the Yaounde Nsimalen International airport. Before their arrival in the hands of the parents, officials of the Yaounde –Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital (HGOPY) including family members were on standby waiting with a medicalized ambulance that ferry them immediately to their temporary resident for care and observation.
The General Manager of HGOPY Professor Mbu Robinson at the airport exposed that, the hospital kept the conjoined twins before their evacuation for separation in order to be certain they are in perfect shape physically like any other children of their age. “The heads, hands and even the visual contact are there”.
An HGOPY team of surgeons including one who took part in the separation operation in Istanbul Turkey are in place to continue the follow up. The twins were joined at the buttocks before their evacuation. He added.
The mother of Elizabeth and Mary, Caroline Akwe expressed gratitude to Elung Paul Che the deputy Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic for informing the presidential couple about the predicaments of the twins when they came to the world. She used the occasion to thank the almighty God for making it possible for the separation to take place successfully.
The dad of the twins Richard Akwe thanked the members of the Bakossi elite and BACDA-USA for extending a hand of fellowship to the family.
