Population Health Not Taken Into Account .
The population of Manjo a town in the Mungo Division of the Littoral Region of Cameroon are calling on the government officials especially the council workers to come to their rescue by cleaning up gabbage hype saluting visitors and business people in the market, the town and even the motor park.
The population of the town is accusing the council officials of neglect and putting the health of the inhabitants in a perilous situation. For the past six months, the council officials have not past around to get rid of the dirt around the market. The pungent smell coming out from the mess is killing us.
We don’t understand why the authorities that be are keeping their eyes closed on the hype of dirt that is causing us difficulties in breathing. A trader revealed.
It is regrettable that, everyday the council workers pass by asking for money from us the traders. We are very disappointing that after paying the market tax, the situation remains unchanged. Therefore what is the council doing with the money collected from the traders everyday if they can’t help us secure our health by taking away the gabbage in the market whose smell is unsupportable. She added.
The mayor of the Manjo council Teclaire Ekosso, who in her efforts to defend the council stated that the situation of uncleanness around the market is not only common in her community but it is a general phenomenon. The government she stated has transferred power to the council but has failed to hand in e financial autonomy to the councils.
The Manjo council she explained is highly indebted and it is looking for means to pay the debt while trying to embellish the town. To her, it is only through the debts that she and the team can satisfy the population. With the decentralization process in Cameroon, no one will deny the fact that, in no distant time, the councils will have their financial independent.
