FIFA Bans The Interim President For A Year Period.
The suspension of Issa Hayatou, the former FIFA interim president on corruption charges for one year has been received with a lot of surprised by Cameroonians. The 74 years Cameroonian who served the Confederation of African Football (CAF) president for 29 years until voted out in 2017, was banned by the organization and fined the sum of 30.000 Swiss francs amounting to 33.189.51 USD, for breach of the world governing body ethics code.
The suspension of Issa Hayatou, is received by Cameroonians with mixed feelings. Steven Ojong the publisher of the Median Newspaper stated “The suspension took me by surprised. I thought the issue has been laid to rest. Never did I know that investigation was still going on. Some time ago, he was accused of corruption like other presidents in parts of the world.
The publisher of the Median Newspaper, did not know that, investigation was been carried out by the world football governing body on Issa Hayatou which revealed that during his reign as CAF president, he had some shabby deals for media and marketing rights of CAF competitions with France-based Lagardere sports between 2014-2017.
The frank Publisher who did not chew his words clearly states that, if found guilty, he has the right to be punished “ May be investigations have ended and it is discovered that he did some wrong things and maybe he deserved to be sanction.”
Issa Hayatou replaced Sepp Blatter when he was suspended because of corruption scandal. It is worth nothing that, corruption scandal has been plaguing the football family. According to FIFA, Issa Hayatou entered in the name and behalf of the Confederation of African Football, into an anti- competitive agreement with Lagardere sport which caused significant damage to CAF.
