Society : Babadjou-Bamenda road A Project Not Realized

Population Eyes Wide Shot To See The Road Constructed.

The launching of the reconstruction of the Babadjou-Bamenda dilapidated stretch of road in 2017 by the Cameroon government was welcome with great enthusiasm by the population of the West and North West Regions. The work which is to swallow over 113 billion CFAF supported by the World Bank remains a dream to be realized.  Since the project was launched in 2017 till date, the Babadjou-Bamenda road remains a night mare.

The re-assurance given by Emmanual Nganou Djoumessi, the Minister of Public Works in June 2019 that the Babadjou- Bamenda road will be constructed in due time leaves much to be desired.  To the minister, works have advanced from the Babadjou stretch of the road in the West region which has no security problem.

Traffic along that road, has always been disrupted. Between March 24-25, 2021, due to the collapse of two highway embankments it was difficult was passengers to go through that road. According to the Public Works boss, the work was halted in January 14, 2021, due to an attack by armed men from the North West. Emmanual Nganou Djoumessi the Public Works Minister explained,  » Sogea Satom, the contractor for the construction project that started in 2017, notified of its withdrawal from the project justifying its decision by a case of force majeure caused by the security situation in the area. This notice paved the way to the cancellation of the contract [the construction contract between Sogea Satom and the project owner], »

The population of the West and North West Regions of the country are looking forward on the day the over 59.9 KM of road will be completed.
