Authorities Decision Punishes Yaounde 6 Inhabitants.
The doors of Markets, shops, stores and beauty salons of the Yaounde 6 constituency every Friday from 6 am to 10 am are closed. This is done in respect of the orders given by the authorities of the council who have dimed it necessary to see that no one buys or sells before the required time.
Initially, the inhabitants of the Yaounde 6 had thought the closing of business premises on this day was to make sure that the population partakes in the cleaning of the environment so as to make it attractive and good for the eyes as it is done in other towns. To the greatest dismay, nothing is done on this day, no cleaning, no work done but stores are closed. A citizen explained.
In other towns like Kumba, Buea, Tiko, a day like this exist which is known as keep the town clean. On this day, every one is expected to keep his environment clean. In compounds, parents and children are seen working, members of taxi drivers union are seen cleaning the gutters of the road, business people in the market are doing same thing there, in order to avoid sanctions that will follow if the council finds out that the environment is not clean.
Council workers in their groups move around expecting the work done. If it is discovered that no work is done in the compound, the head of the family is summoned to the council where he or she is going to pay some fines. In Yaounde 6, the scenario is different. The stores are closed, no one is keeping his or her environment clean, council workers are comfortable sitting in their offices, environment is nasty and untidy. Paul Egbe noted.
It is surprising that the council is not encouraging a clean environment, yet asking the inhabitants to close their businesses for hours.
