Movement of Persons, Vehicles and Good Prohibited For Days.
Passengers and drivers plying the Bali – Mamfe roads for over a monthhave been passing through dark tunnels whose end is not yet known. The road from Bali to Mamfe has been blocked causing enormous hardship to passengers and drivers. According to reliable information sources, passengers who in the past pay transport fare of 6000 from Bamenda to Ekok, now pay from 10.000CFAF to 15000CFAF to get to same destination.
The road blockage has caused untold suffering and hardship to the inhabitants of the North West Region who are even unable to meet demands of their daily needs as the amount of money some drivers used to have in the past have experienced some reduction. Thus causing them shame and disgrace as some find it difficult to pay their rents. Recently, driver plying the Bamenda – Fundong stretch of the road met their waterloo on the 5th of June 2021 as they witnessed their car keys and documents seized by the separatist fighters before the road was blocked on that faithful day after guns were shot.
Information gathered revealed that, the reason for blocking the roads was as a result the arrest of some drivers being by the forces of law and order on suspicion that, they are working hand in gloves with the separatist fighters. Thereby, depriving people to move normally as vehicles are stationed on the streets. The blocking of the Bamenda – Fundong road have caused business to be halted as stranded women are unable to transport their goods from Fundong to Bamenda causing their products to get bad.
The road blockage by the separatist fighters is to retaliate the decision taking by some administrative authorities especially the Senior Division Officer of Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh, who passed a decree banning the circulation of motorbikes in the Bali community following the killing of some military men.
The decision prohibits the circulation of persons, goods in and out of Bali Community. For over 20 days, the circulation of vehicles, motorbikes, goods and persons have been halted as the separatist fighters have blocked the roads in the area.
