Separatist Fighters Surprised Military Base With Attack.
A military base in Galim, Bamboutos, in the West Region recently was attacked by separatist fighters leaving four Cameroonian soldiers dead and one injured. The separatist figters who for over five years have been attacking uniform men and civilians alike.
Augustine Awa Fonka, the Governor of the West Region, attested that « At midnight, there was an attack by separatists on the military outpost of Menfoung. The death toll was four. Four soldiers of the Cameroonian army as well as another soldier seriously wounded, ». Following words from the military, the separatists invaded this posts with the pretext of releasing three of their members arrested during an armed operations.
With motor bikes, the over 50 armed men, attacked the army security post in Menfoung. Sources revealed that, the men came from Bambalang (a village in the commune of Ndop, department of Ngo-Ketunjia). The elements were surprised at their base in the late hours of the night. In the cause of fire exchanged between the armed men and the soldiers, four soldiers lost their lives on the spot and one seriously injured. Shots were fired before they flee with important military equipments.
Fortunately for one of them, he surviced the attack though wounded.
François Franquelin Etapa, the prefect of the Bamboutos region, at the end of a crisis meeting held on Friday 30 April 2021, with the traditional and administrative authorities of the Galim district explained, « I would like to regret this unfortunate incident which once again brings families into mourning. I cannot tell you what we will do in the future, but I will tell you that the state will not leave the people in distress. The forces of law and order are currently combing the whole village and strong actions are being carried out, ».
It was revealed by the Governor of the West Region that, the combing operation carried out by the defense and security forces in the area of the attack led to the discovery of four bodies of separatists, including that of a certain Moubarack, deputy of « General No Pity. Since the attack, the population of Galim, have been living in fear.
