Teams Allocated to Pot Following FIFA/Coco-Cola World Ranking .
Draw for the TotalEnergies Africa Nations Cup Cameroon 2021 was finally held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the Yaounde Conference Center.
The 24 teams that qualified for the competition were divided into six groups of four teams. The teams that will partake in the competition were allocated to four pots of six teams each based on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World ranking that released on August 12, 2021.
Following the ranking, the top four teams were allocated to pot 1 along with the hosts country Cameroon and title holders Algeria. The remaining 18 teams were allocated to the three remaining pots (Pots 2,3 and 4) in relation to the FIFA ranking.
The four pots representing the teams were labeled pots 1 to 4, while the six pots representing the groups were tagged groups A to F.
A ball from the team pot was drawn and later on a ball from the group pots followed suit.
There by determining the position in which each team will play. Four pots representing the teams were labeled pot 1 to 4. Pot 1 was made up of Cameroon, Algeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco and Nigeria, Pot 2: Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Pot 3: Cape Verde, Gabon, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and Guinea Bissau and Pot 4: Malawi, Sudan, Equatorial Guinea, Comoros, Ethiopia and Gambia. Each team pot was completely emptied before the next pot was touched. Cameroon had a red ball in pot 1 and she was allocated the first position A1 while the remaining five teams were drawn on position 1 of each group from B to F.
At the end of the draw, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Cape Verde will play in group A, Senegal Malawi, Zimbabwe and Guinea in group B, Morocco, Comoros, Gabon and Ghana in group C, Nigeria, Egypt Sudan and Guinea Bissau in group D, Algeria, Equatorial Guinea Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone group E and Tunisia, Gambia, Mali and Mauritania in group F.
