Parliamentarians Main Crusaders For Bilingualism.

The parliamentary network for the promotion of bilingualism and multiculturalism (NEP-PROBIM) under the leadership of Honorable Joanna Ebangha epse Agbor Ntui met on Monday, April 5, 2021, at the Yaounde Conference Center, during a general Assemble to discuss the way forward. The network, created after realising the load of work the commission is handling, noticed that, before the promulgation of the law of official languages, the law makers had stood for the promotion of bilingualism in the country.

Members of the parliamentary network for the promotion of bilingualism and multiculturalism have vowed to meet the government to change the system. Honorable Koupit Adamou, the vice president of the network stated  » we cannot talk of bilingual schools because of co -habitation. That is the English and French system in the same compound. We want schools that are bilingual because the pupil and students are bilingual ».

To the member of parliament, intergrating the two systems is the best way to promote bilingualism as he pointed out « promotion of bilingualism is to intergrate the two systems. That is to make our children be able to express themselves in both English and French ».

We will do it by working hand in gloves with the ministries concern like that of the basic education, secondary and higher eduation. He added.

Honorable Joanna Ebangha epse Agbor Ntui, the president of the network clearly stated  » in order for us to get Cameroonians and parliamentarians to be bilingual and practice bilingualism, we thought it is normal for us as elected officials of the people to create a network that will enable us sensitize the people and go right down to our constituencies.  Today, we are going to look at the program of activities for the year, look at what we are expected to do, look at who we should talk to, go to the regions, divisions, sub divisions and our constituencies ».

To the president of this network, it is the responsibility of the members to ensure that bilingualism, multiculturalism and living together is implanted in the nooks and crannies of the country.
