Majority Molested And Sexually Abuse By Their Bosses.
The precarious situation of nannies or house helps in Cameroon is now a major cause for concern that needs urgent handling by the various stake holders with the government included. Majority of the young girls and aging women who work for people to ensure that their homes are clean, food cooked and children are in safe hands, are treated poorly and at times even considered as second class citizens as the so called the haves or the rich pass them through serious inhuman treatment.
They worked long hours and at times even late into the nights, paid unbelievable salaries below the minimum wage stated by the state, insulted, beaten up by their bosses including the children, sexually abuse, no period of leave, void of social insurance protection, laws protecting them and medical protection almost absent.
Despite several seminars and workshops held in the country to savage the situation, their condition remain unchanged. Many civil society organizations in the country, international humanitarian foundations have put hands on deck to solve the problem. Though members of different associations fighting for the nannies rights are doing everything to ensure their working conditions are improved, working hours reduced , pay package increased and their jobs valorized, the house helps are still molested every day. Most at times, the nannies work years without leave, or without any job descriptions put in place. The efforts off the so called trade unions that organized training programs in order to make the domestic workers execute their assignments on knowledge based perspective is under minded.
The exploitation of the nannies by their employers is getting out of hand because the government of Cameroon has failed to ensure that the laws put in place are respected by all.
