Non Degradable Plastics and Thousand Liters Of Fuel Presently At Gendarmerie.
Large quantity of non degradable plastics and over 50000 liters of fuel and some medications that are illegally smuggled into the country from Nigeria by economic operators in the South West Region have been seized by the Limbe Custom officers recently.
The seized items are presently at the Limbe Gendarmerie brigade.
The goods that have been seized by the customs and kept in the compound of the gendarmerie, would be given back to the owners if they meet the required demands of the government. Failure to do so, the goods will be sold and the money sent to the state coffers. The medications would be burnt in the presence of the administrative authorities who have condemned the transportation of illicit drugs into the country. Captian Kwat Michael the Limbe Gendarmerie Commander stated.
According to environmental experts, the non degradable plastics are dangerous to human health. It is surprising that despite the efforts made by the government to stop the importation of such health damaging plastics, Cameroonians are still smuggling it into the country.
They stated.
They are hoping that in the nearest future, the government of Cameroon will do everything possible to open industries that will produce degradable plastics. It is really disturbing to know that many years after the ban of non-degradable plastics in Cameroon; the state is unable to provide industries that produce the degradable ones. The question asked by many is why the rush to put an end on a product when there is no alternative one in the market for Cameroonians to use. Is the government always taking the second steps before the first? The state of Cameroon is expected to take concrete actions to solve the problem.
