Politics: National Assembly Speaker Urges Cameroonians not to Destroy State Image

Members of AFCON organization committees call to wear the garment of professionalism.

Cameroonians have been called to stay away from any behavior and actions that will paint the country black and destroy its image during the period of the 2021 Total Energies African Nations Cup (AFCON). The call was made on Thursday November 11, by the Right Honorable Speaker of the National Assembly Cavaye Yeguie Djibril during the opening of the third ordinary session of the National Assembly.

The Speaker Cavaye Yeguie Djibril stated “We should also refrain from any act that will tarnish the image of Cameroon and desist from any campaign of misinformation. We must shun populism and irresponsible behavior which are borne out of the selfish desires of some Cameroonians.”

He called on the members of the various committees to be responsible and make the AFCON Total energies 2021 be a glorious and memorable one in the country “I would also like to exhort the various commissions and the organizing committee to show proof of restraint and professionalism. I urged them, in particular, to manage all affairs of the tournament with probity and ipso facto make to make the AFCON TOTAL ENERGIES sweet, not bitter.”

Cameroonians were reminded by the Right Honorable Speaker Cavaye Yeguie Djibril of the need to be friendly during the one month period of the AFCON that will be hosted by Cameroon so as to keep the image of the state brightened “The Nation’s Representatives would like to seize this opportunity to exhort Cameroonians to demonstrate their legendary hospitality and show their patriotism in order to portray the best image of our country.”

The speaker regrets the killing of the 5 years old Enondiale Carolaise in Buea in the South West Region on the 14th October 2021 by a gendarmerie officer during a routine traffic control who was later lynched by an angry mob that same day.
