Cameroon : Bill On Economic Partnership Agreement Scanned

Minister of Economy Exposes The Country’s Gains.

Cameroon Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development Alamine Ousmane Mey answered the called of Members of the Committee on finance and the budget of the National Assembly, on Friday 11th June 2021 to scrutinize Bill No. 1094/PJ/AN that authorized the President of the Republic to ratify the Stepping Stone Agreement towards a Bilateral Economic Partnership Agreement between the Republic of Cameroon and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

To Alamine Ousman Mey, the adoption of the Bill can never be under minded as it gives Cameroon access to markets in the United Kingdom (UK) without any tariffs or custom barriers. To him, the economic partnership agreement will not only preserve the country’s economic ties but also jobs in the country.

For the country to sign the partnership agreement with the UK on the 9th of March serious negotiation had taken place. This no one can deny will be the new framework for our cooperation. The Minister added.

The Economic Partnership Agreement will not only strengthen trade relations with the UK, but also promote investment, strengthen economic partnership, ensure that Cameroon export more that will enable her trade  be balanced and beneficial to the country’s economy.

To the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development Alamine Ousman Mey, it is imperative for this Bill to be adopted since it is of  utmost importance for the economic development of the state.

How beneficial will this economic partnership agreement be to a common man on the street remains a million dollar question to be answered?
