State accused of falsifying congolaise players covid results.
The dignity of the once prestigious and respected country Cameroon when it comes to football, has been reduced to sham as over 13 Democratic Republic of Congo players were declared positive of the corona virus pandemic that has caused global panic days after the African Nations Championship known as CHAN had commenced.
Many pundits have been asking how the players and management of the team entered the country, without being tested at the airports. Is it that, the Covid -19 team at the airport was on leave or holidays on the day of their arrival. Or was the test kids out of stock? This remain a million dollar questions to be answered.
It is surprising to hear that the players were tested only when the competition is almost coming to an end. At the airports, those entering the country have to run some Covid- 19 test, get their results before allow to leave the airport. How comes that the players of the Democratic Republic of Congo were not tested on their arrival. This is really a disgrace to our country. A city dweller pointed out.
Charles Mbuya a sport Journalist with Canal plus on his social page, stated that, “the Covid test is supervised by the CAF medical commission with the assistance of the world health organization and not Cameroon”. Jean Florent Ikwange Ibenge, the team manager of the Democratic Republic of Congo lamenting the despicable situation of the country and the level at which the dignity Cameroon has been thrown to the mire, explained that “after the test had been done, it was shocking for the team manager of Cameroon to announced to CAF doctor Zakia Bartagi that 13 my players are positive. I do understand how our opponent should have our results before us and even before the CAF management” He added.
According to the team manager of the DRC team for the CHAN Jean Florent Ikwange Ibenge, a country like Cameroon should not stoop that low to make him drink medications when he is not sick of Covid-19. To him the action is criminal since it is just a normal football game. Such actions to him is tarnishing the image of Cameroon.
The scandalous incident has pushed many Cameroonians to wonder aloud if truly the statistics given by the government over the number of Covid cases is true.
