Simon Achidi Achu Dies in The USA
Appointed on April 9, 1992, as the first anglophone Prime Minister (PM) of the Republic of Cameron, Simon Achidi Achu, originated from the North West Region of the Country. He held the position of the PM till September 19, 1996. He handed over the position to Peter Mafany Musonge. For several years, his health state has not been stable. He battled with ill health for many years before bowing down to the cold hands of death on Tuesday, May 5, 2021, at a hospital in the United States of America.
He held several top positions in the country such as chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Investment Corporation (SNI). Minister of Justice under president Ahmadou Ahidjo from 1972 to 1975. The late Simon Achidi Achu was also a member the Central Committee of the ruling CPDM party. Equally, he was elected as one of the pioneer senators of the Republic of Cameroon in the 2013 twin elections. He failed to be elected for a second five years term.
Born on November 5, 1934 in Bamenda, Simon Achidi Achu was first an accountant at the then Bamenda-Widikum council and a trainee at the CDC. After his studies at the University of Yaounde; and Enam, he worked as a translator-interpreter at the Presidency of the Republic.
He became the Secretary General at the Ministry of Public Service in 1971 and in 1972 Minister Delegate for State Inspection.
