Minister Mounouna Foutsou Exposes It Advantages.
The adoption of Bill No. 1097/PJL/AN to organize and promote volunteering in Cameroon by members of parliament on Monday, 21st June 2021 has been highly appreciated and embraced by government officials and the law makers. The law, though not structured as in other countries like Nigeria where the state makes it compulsory for youths to render services to the state before engaging in active life is appraised by many.
According to Mounouna Foutsou, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, the bill is a vital tool for economic development especially in times of decentralization like this. The government of Cameroon has thought it wise to set up laws that govern volunteerism and define the relationship between the volunteers and the organizations.
With this bill, a suitable environment for the development, promotion and relationship between the stakeholders is created. Volunteerism, will not only be limited to public structures like the Civic Service Organizations but it will also be carried out by private organizations, civil societies and international organizations the minister said.
Honorable Martin Akat, revealed that, the volunteering period will be tantamount to internship which will help Cameroonians gain the required work experience demanded by most companies when there is a job vacancy. Volunteerism gives room to national integration as many people sent to work in regions that are not theirs will have no option than to learn other culture. Through volunteering service, young Cameroonians can have access to important structures that can offer them job if they distinguished themselves. He mentioned.
It is worth noting that, many people have good jobs in international organizations because of volunteerism.
